"Rivers for Life" is the theme for the performance that hundreds of indigenous people have carried out in Copacabana Beach to show the world their struggle to save the Amazon. The People's Summit has been the venue chosen by different ethnic groups and peoples to denounce the construction of hydroelectric plants on the main Amazon rivers which will force the drying out of some fluvial areas, the flooding of thousands of kilometres of virgin forest as well as the forced displacemento of great part of its population. All, so as to increase the capacity to generate energy needed by emerging countries, in this case, as Brazil.
